We finally heard from Nick. He is on the island of Ambae, which seems to be pretty far away from civilization. His companion is Elder Vai (Vaiomo'unga) from Tonga.
Nick describes the area like this:
It's so hot here and rains so much. Ambae is mostly trees or forest. Elder Vai and the other missionaries call it "bush". The bush is just thick with plant life. If you watch Tarzan, it's like that! I love it. My mission is like an adventure. I hike up this hill everyday through the bush to go house to house teaching.
What's the food like?
The food here is so bad. It's basically mush cooked in banana leaves. All I eat is basically, rice, eggs, crackers, canned meat (spam) and noodles. Today I tried to make pancakes.
How are the people?
Everyone loves me, they love my smile, my laugh and I make them laugh. I am learning Bislama very fast. I am almost fluent.
Elder Killpack's Testimony:
Life is so hard at times, but I like to think of it like the hill me and Elder Vai hike up every day. At the end of that hill is an investigator, her name is Mama Naci. She is my favorite because every time I talk to her I feel the spirit. Sometimes I don't know what I'm saying, but the spirit guides me on what to say. Life is hard, but at the end of our hill is heaven. We need to work hard to get there, but when we do, all we have left is just pure joy, happiness and peace. Even though it's hard, I love it here. I'm doing the Lord's work. Love you all, Elder Killpack
